Ant Bu11y

Warner Bros is coming out with a new movie called The Ant Bu11y. This is one movie my children will not be allowed to see. Why? Because I have become the Ant queen bully in my own home, with my subjects (children) following my kill orders on occasion. The battle has been waged in earnest. So far I have gone through 2 gallons of bleach, 1 bottle of windex, the ant exterminator man (2 trips starting in April) and peppermint. (yes ant's don't like the smell of peppermint, my kitchen smells like a candy factory) I think the ants have a condo community set up somewhere along my property (it's a secret society b/c no one can find it) I'm betting they have rail service, a barter system and I know they have an army. They were trying to colonize my sink with the itsy bitsy nacho chip in it the other morning. Score: Ants -- still alive
Me -- out about $200+, 20 hours of time and several very clean cabinets, kitchen floor and sparkling sink. Battle still being waged.

I ran with the kids on bikes and the baby in the stroller on the 4th to compensate for later drinking. For every mile you have to push a 30lb toddler in a stroller should count as 2 run miles. Thank goodness for my new best friend, gatorade. He kept me in check during the heat. I got 3 miles (or shall I claim 6?) with some rest breaks so I could block traffic from running over my children.

All in all the 4th was fun. The kids had the best time on the slip-n-slide into a mud puddle then a jump in one of those big white trash pools that was pretty discusting after a couple hours of 10+ children doing the same thing along with two drunk adult males.

I totally admire mommies (and daddies) being able to run and push those strollers. How in the world do you do it?! Upper body strength?

Did you send the heat back here?

Be careful you don't arch the lower back when running with the stroller.

I am empathizing with you on the ants. We had our annual visitation recently - in previous years we had big ants in the cupboards (which now have only CANS in them - ants can't get in cans!) and for the past two years teeny ones come from somewhere under the stove. And years ago we had medium ones in the washroom. Yeah, fun with the ants. I never want to see any Disney movies about cute ants, like "Antz", cuz to me they are so not cute. I hope yours go away and forget to come back very soon. Oh, yeah. Dish soap is also good - I like Sunlight. A line by the sliding glass kitchen doors, and liberal lashings out by the cracked cement front walk where there is a whole nation-state of ants. Or was!
I love your blog by the way. I am a runner too and started when my kids were little, and I so admire you pushing a jogging stroller! I was not strong enough to do that then - probably not now either! (Mind you they are pre-teens now so, yeah. They stay at home)
